Five years ago, I went on Spring Break in Waikiki, Hawaii.  I stayed at a friend's house, which happened to be just down the beach from Doris Duke's home.  I remember this only because her property featured this cool water alcove where you could jump from the stone wall into the water beneath and because, she too, was a Dukie.  As I was thinking of features for this week's Hawaii beach theme, my mind went back to her home and that stone wall.  Now, having done a little more research, I realize that this Hawaiian residence is named Shangri La and is now the location of The Doris Duke Foundation Center for Islamic Arts.

As with all fabulous homes, Elle Decor featured Shangri La and gave us a glimpse into it's beautiful interior. Decorated with rich colors, mosaics, and beautiful tapestries, I could instantly feel the Turkish influence.  The bathroom features were reminiscent of the Hamam I visited in Istanbul just last month and the mosaics brought back memories of the interior of Hagia Sophia.  Despite the resonance of those details, I think this home just is heavenly--that pool alone is enough to make a girl jealous. Enjoy!

PS: See the stone wall and the water alcove in this first picture? That's where we jumped.
